This year, we did a lot of reading, writing, talking, and presenting. Of all the stuff we did in English III, my favorite was our last lecture. During the Last Lecture's, I was able to learn a lot about my fellow classmates. The Last Lecture made me think about how cruel life can be. Listening to other people's stories made me realize the hardship people went through. I never thought the events can be filled with tragedy.
While growing up, I had a happy life, I met people with there own happy stories. The only events I experienced tragedy was when I was reading books. I never thought I would meet people who had experienced something very tragic in their lives. After listening to other classmates Last Lectures, I started to think differently. Knowing someone who went through bad times and is still smiling tells me how strong a person can be.
The only bad experience I have was when I was arguing with my brother. Usually we tend to argue over small unimportant things, for example, food. After arguments I would usually forget them easily and return my life back to normal. Seeing how other people experienced more tragic events, I cannot stop thinking about how people are able to stay strong. If an event is very tragic or important, you cannot lose that memory easily. Usually people would have to grow up remembering these events. This is similar to Gatsby in "The Great Gatsby".
In "The Great Gatsby", Gatsby grows up thinking about money and daisy. Past events made Gatsby trying to achieve the impossible. People tend to say the past makes who you are today, well I think you can become a better person b learning from the past. You don't necessarily have to be who you were in the past, you just have to learn from the past to become a better person. The Last Lecture's helped me realize how people are able to learn and become a greater person.

English III #1
In "The Great Gatsby", the green light was symbolic and an important piece from the story. The question I was told to answer was "What is your green light?". My green light is my future. Struggling through school and life helps me realize how important my future is. The future decides how I will end up 10, 20 and even 30 years from today. I would consider my future the green light.
The future is something one cannot predict. Usually if someone wants a good future then they would try there best now to have a better life. Since I cannot predict my future, I tend to imagine it. I usually try my best to do better now, but sometimes things don't usually go the way I plan. In "The Great Gatsby", Gatsby is trying to reach his green light, but is unable to reach it. Gatsby experiences many problems throughout his journey towards his green light.
Reaching for a goal is always filled with obstacles. For Gatsby, his obstacle was Tom. For my obstacle, it would be school. For my future to be bright, I need to do well in school. This is usually what many say to be successful. I think school is a small factor to your future. To make a bright future something as small as numbers and letters on papers should not decide our futures, but instead we should consider our present time and think how it will affect our future. If someone was only focused in creating "A's" and 100's, then the future has nothing to look back at. The times of childhood would be filled with studying and lonely times. To have a good future I plan to enjoy my time now and also focus on school works.
Our future will always be a mystery. Normally we have other people creating paths to guide us to the right direction, but there paths are not what we would want. The paths other people create are what that person wants for you. If you want your future, then you should create your own paths. Gatsby had a goal ever since he was young. Gatsby then created his own path and this lead to his future. Gatsby was able to gain help from other people. This helped Gatsby create a better path toward his future.
