In "The Great Gatsby", the green light was symbolic and an important piece from the story. The question I was told to answer was "What is your green light?". My green light is my future. Struggling through school and life helps me realize how important my future is. The future decides how I will end up 10, 20 and even 30 years from today. I would consider my future the green light.
The future is something one cannot predict. Usually if someone wants a good future then they would try there best now to have a better life. Since I cannot predict my future, I tend to imagine it. I usually try my best to do better now, but sometimes things don't usually go the way I plan. In "The Great Gatsby", Gatsby is trying to reach his green light, but is unable to reach it. Gatsby experiences many problems throughout his journey towards his green light.
Reaching for a goal is always filled with obstacles. For Gatsby, his obstacle was Tom. For my obstacle, it would be school. For my future to be bright, I need to do well in school. This is usually what many say to be successful. I think school is a small factor to your future. To make a bright future something as small as numbers and letters on papers should not decide our futures, but instead we should consider our present time and think how it will affect our future. If someone was only focused in creating "A's" and 100's, then the future has nothing to look back at. The times of childhood would be filled with studying and lonely times. To have a good future I plan to enjoy my time now and also focus on school works.
Our future will always be a mystery. Normally we have other people creating paths to guide us to the right direction, but there paths are not what we would want. The paths other people create are what that person wants for you. If you want your future, then you should create your own paths. Gatsby had a goal ever since he was young. Gatsby then created his own path and this lead to his future. Gatsby was able to gain help from other people. This helped Gatsby create a better path toward his future.

The question I have for you is what is your green light?
